Hungry Brain (every Sunday night) - The Emerging Improvisers Organization,
led by three of Chicago's most active musicians, presents a weekly series of
groups every Sunday night at the Hungry Brain. The HB is a great bar with a
low key atmosphere and cheap drinks served up by Dan. The groups in this series
reflect some of the most talented of Chicago's jazz and improvised musicians,
with a focus on younger talent mixing with established performers.
During the Chicago Jazz Fest the Hungry Brain will host a nightly series of
after fest jam sessions -

3030 - Every Thursday night ERP hosts a showcase of freejazz and experimental
music. Tucked away on Chicago's west side this former church has become a home
away from home for today's improvisers. Ken Vandermark, Jim Baker, Michael Zerang,
Fred Longberg-Holm, Dave Rempis, Tim Daisy and hundreds of other local musicians
have performed on this stage alongside some of the legends of today's international
music scene.

Myopic Bookstore - (every Monday night) - For over a decade Myopic books
has been host to a weekly series of improvised music. The current Monday night
series is presented by Holler Records and showcases some amazing talent both
local and international. From Chicago veterans to internationally renown players
the Myopic series has reached almost mythic proportions as being a incubator
for some of Chicago's brightest stars.

Cafe Mestizo - The Avant-Garde Jazz Jam Session host by the David Boykin
Trio (David Boykin, Mike Reed, Karl E.H. Seigfried). This series is Chicago's
only open jam session - allowing younger improvisers to sit in with the trio
on a rotating basis. Formerly at the Hotti Biscotti the trio has moved to the
new location at the Cafe Mestizo in Pilsen.

Candlestick Maker - Percussionist Michael Zerang hosts this series of
jazz, improvised and world music from his studio on North Kedzie. You never
know who might be performing this week at the Maker. A great little place that
is hidden in a quiet neighborhood on Chicago's northwest side.

6ODUM - Lampo, one of Chicago's most active music oriented non-profits,
presents a seasonal series of international and local experimental musicians
showcasing the extremes in avant-garde and free music. Shows featuring Kevin
Drumm, Zbigniew Karkowski, AMM (Eddie Prévost, Keith Rowe and John Tilbury),
Jim O'Rourke, Ken Vandermark, Michael Zerang, William Parker to name just a

Deadtech - Started in the late 1990s as a forum/gallery for electronic
art Deadtech has often played host to the Chicago jazz scene. Recent shows with
Fred Longberg-Holm's Terminal 4 and the Krakow Improviser's Ensemble have made
Deadtech a hot spot for improvised music both local and international.

Buddy - Every Wednesday night Buddy hosts the "Improvise with your buddy"
series. A weekly series of shows based around the improv lotto - musicians submit
their name and they are drawn out of a hat to create groups for each week. Appearances
by Nick Broste, Weasel Walter, Steve Schmitt, and Frank Rosaly have made for
some pretty exciting shows.

Empty Bottle - Many of you may already know the Empty Bottle as a great
place to drink beer and listen to loud music but every Tuesday night they host
the Vandermark 5 as well as a Wednesday night Chicago Improvisers series that
has had some of the most amazing shows presented in Chicago on it's stage. Wednesday
is a lot more low-key and respectful environment for enjoying good music.
